Chimney Liner

Chimney Liner: The Evolution of Chimney Systems: From Open Fireplaces to Efficient Stoves

In the 70s, 80s and 90s, fireplaces were the predominant heating source, and when the flue connected to an open fireplace got damaged, an 8″ or 200mm diameter flexible flue chimney liner was the go-to solution for relining the chimney. Sometimes, chimney specialists even replaced the clay flue liners with like-for-like. The above damage was often caused by a chimney fire or subsidence.

Over time, the rising popularity of stoves led to a gradual shift towards narrower flue diameters, as stoves typically require a smaller flue system. This transition marked the changing landscape of chimney design and installation, catering to the evolving needs of homeowners.

Today, homeowners have access to a wide range of chimney lining options, from ceramic to stainless steel flexible flue liners, each offering its own set of benefits and capabilities. Whether you’re dealing with an open fireplace or a modern stove, the chimney industry has evolved to provide tailored solutions to meet the diverse requirements of modern heating systems.
